Staying on the supermarket theme, this one is from Morrisons. The Joven, which they don’t appear to stock any more, was a cheap and cheerful wine which we used to use for cooking, but this Reserva is definitely for the glass and not the pot.

The wine is made from 100% tempranillo grown around the village of Elciego in the Rioja Alavesa. Grapes are harvested by hand and after fermentation, the wine is aged for three years in American oak barrels.

Ruby red colour with a quite intense aroma followed by notes of oak with some vanilla and plum. Well balanced with a rounded structure and a long and pleasant finish.

Would go well with any roasted vegetables or meat.
